Dance meets direction

Helping your child pursue their passion for dance in college can be both exciting and overwhelming. The admissions process for dancers is not the same as it is for other students—and without expert guidance, it’s easy to feel lost in a maze of videos, auditions, program types, and unfamiliar schools.

That’s where we come in.

We specialize in college counseling for students pursuing dance majors, performance minors, and double majors. We help families understand what’s required, what options exist beyond the most obvious programs, and how to craft a strategy that supports both artistic dreams and long-term stability.

Why Dance Majors Are Different

Unlike standard college applications, students applying to dance programs often need to submit pre-screen videos, attend live auditions, write specific artistic statements and resumes, and tailor materials specifically to arts programs. Each school has its own process and timeline—and many families don’t realize how early and detailed the preparation needs to be.

Beyond that, all dance programs have different strengths. Some focus on conservatory-style training, while others emphasize choreography, theory, or dance science. Some schools are incredibly supportive of double majors—others, not. Many have changed dramatically in the years since your dancer’s teachers knew of the program.

We help you understand these nuances so you and your child can make confident, informed decisions.

The Importance of a Thoughtful Strategy

In today’s economy, pursuing a dance degree without a larger plan can be risky. We help you make a. lesson plan for life one that serves as a guide, enabling choice-making along the way. We help students (and parents) think strategically:

  • Which programs provide opportunities for me to grow, take risks, and connect as a dancer?

  • What schools offer programs in other areas of interest? How do I evaluate those?

  • How can you successfully double major—or keep your options open?

  • What types of programs best fit your personality, goals, and learning preferences?

This process can start with the idea of a dream school, but it’s not about a single best fit. It’s also not just about getting in. What matters finding the right fit so your dancer can thrive artistically, academically, financially, and professionally.
